A small stream in the gorge I shot this past week while leading a tour. I'd never thought to shoot this perspective before, despite passing it dozens of times. On this day, in the early morning, the light was just perfect for the scene. I'd not observed this background illumination at any other time I'd visited here (mostly in the afternoon). Just an example of how the subtle nuances of light, even when not direct, can impact a scene.

You are right about that special lighting. It evokes that same feeling that makes hiking so fun.
Oh, now! That is dreamy good, Marc. What a nice surprise, eh? The stream is absolutely lovely, along with the light in the bg.

I like your evocative title, Marc; it says it all. I suppose one could say that this image is a fairly standard view of the stream, but with the soft light you've captured something quite beautiful. It really is all about light.
For pete's sake Marc, I feel like I can walk right into the scene. You really emphasized in past postings about making a 2D image have depth, as best as can be possible. If this image doesn't show that, I need new glasses. Good work.
Well done. I like this one a lot Marc. The composition, while maybe not the most unique, is very good. The lighting and color though, are great. You've noted before how hard it is to capture forest scenes, and the forest surrounding the stream is beautiful. I'm always impressed with how you treat your greens in processing; there is a nice broad range of blue-green to yellow-green.
Great shot Marc, wonderful capture of the lighting

Marc, one other thing: so many times I've read people saying that "focal lengths between 35 and 70mm are a boring waste of time", and how a 50mm lens is the most useless, solely for beginners.
You shot this beauty at 44mm, which means a 50mm lens would have worked quite nicely, being nearly the same focal length (maybe backing up a few steps). There goes useless, right out the window. It's certainly the eye, not the gear!

Fantatsic shot Marc, I feel like I could walk right into it, the lighting is just right on. I love the greens
Wonderful, subtle image Marc. For me it feels like the bottom left area is really important for the sense of depth, maybe because of those blades of grass that stick up in front of the water.

This is a nice stream shot...
I have seen this light quite a few times and last night I witnessed similar light in the Gorge
I am surprised that you left the little blades of grass in the frame on the lower left as they are sticking into the stream...I figured you would have cloned them out for a cleaner image....

I'll have to agree with the rest of the folks comment's. There is a fine line on what shutter speed to use and I think you nailed it.
