It wasn't very long ago when images of otters were like hen's teeth and now not only are there lots of them but they're really good! In an effort to update my meagre otter files, spent some time in the spring following this big male on the west coast. As Elliot will no doubt testify, they have a habit of popping up when you least expect them and I was so close to this one, I had to back off to focus.
Not perfect by any means and I'm off again in a few weeks as the otter bar is being raised daily!!

Oh yes! I know that trick very well! Definitely has impact - although I am sure its a bit too frame-filling for some. Good to have a clear shot of the fish intact - most of my otters seem to prefer crabs and shred them within a few seconds of reaching the shore. Good luck for your next trip!
This is very nice image of quite an elusive and playful subject! I total agree that the bar has sudden risen. This is awesome attempt in my opinion and a definite keeper. You never actually stated whether this was full frame or not! I’m assuming that you haven’t got the remaining whiskers to the right of the frame – other than that perfect!
Not perfect maybe, but it looks like an excellent shot of an otter eating a small wrasse to me.
It's got good detail (veins on the eyelids and duelling scars) and its clear and well exposed with good eye contact. You might struggle to get a better one yet, but I am sure you will enjoy yourself trying and I look forward to seeing the results, good hunting. Eric

Maybe like to see a bit more of the whiskers on the right but framing is always an issue, but I like it just the way it is,look forward to more.
