My brother was visiting from Nebraska this week, and we dropped by St. Helens on Monday afternoon. This was taken from the Johnston Ridge VC. The stay on the trail rule limited compositions, but the penstemon is doing very well right now. Has anyone been over to the east side to note the flowers?

I was there Tuesday afternoon with my tour and we ended up stopping at this spot for sunset. Cloudless, of course, but still a nice shoot. My favorite areas for the penstemon are down below at the pull-out, but those were past peak already. This area looked a bit past peak to me also, and fading fast. The composition looks excellent here.

Ditto on the composition. Very appealing to the eye. Nicely exposed.

Very nice John. I'm planning on going the St. Helens on Monday, and to the east side for Tuesday morning. I'll let you know what I find out.

Looks great, John! The color in the flowers is really rich. What a lovely "footing" for St. Helens.

Looks good to me also. A beautiful shot that most folks living somewhere else would be in awe at. My smalll nit would be the darkness of the bottom left corner. My eye's seem to be drawn there.

I like how the pents just stretch on into the distance. Nice capture of a beautiful scene, John. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice shot John.....my only wish would be to have it under morning or evening light...the harsh light on the flowers is just a hair too contrasty for me!!!

FYI John, I went to the east side of St. Helens yesterday (7/15) and the spur road to Windy Ridge is still closed. Possibly due to North slope facing snow.
