An evening at Red Rock Lake
The lily pads have some nice flowers right now at Red Rock Lake in the Brainaird Lake Recreation Area of the Indian Peaks.

I don't know why, but something about this rock in the lake just struck me as stunningly beautiful. Does this image work at all, or am I just off my "rock"-er?

Well, just from knowing you for years- yes, you are off your rocker!  But not about that image! I love it. I can't remember the last time I saw a lake that glass smooth! Stunning!

#2 works for me, has a very abstract feel to it while being completely realistic.

Yeah, i was looking for flowering ones at Nymph but there werent any. Anyhow, cool shot. The rock reminds me of a certain bird, can't think of it's name. I dunno about stunningly beautiful (now, if you had caught a centerfold sunning herself on the rock...) but it's still pretty cool.

The composition, saturation and colors work for me.

The only nit would be the rather bright/blownout right edge of the rock.
Some additional PP should take care of that.

So, why do they call this Red Rock Lake ?

I like it. Great range of colors. It has a serene, zen-like feel  -- centering.

I love #2. Very cool shot. Have you tried it in BW too?

Thanks for the lily information Todd. I really like #2!! For me, something about the rock anchors
the image among the reflections. The trees look wonderfully impressionistic too.

They both work for me very well!
That second one is beautifully composed...love the cloud rellections you captured and the gradual light to dark from one corner to the other.

I like 'em both Todd. Ditto others comments above.

The lily shot is a beauty. I'm not digging the rock one so much, but it does remind me of the Flight of the Navigator

Definitely like #1, well composed and executed.

However, I *REALLY* like #2, I like the composition and think that technically you did an extremely good job... sharp focus, good colors, and of course the smooth lake water. The one thing that nags at me a bit is that the rock almost gets overwhelmed by the water and reflected trees around it, I wonder if you toned down the saturation on that a bit if the rock itself would pop more.

Either way, great shots.

Really like the colors in the second image. Very nice.

I really like both of them, but I give my edge to numero dos.

Todd,

With the lily, the shadow coming down out of the frame from the stem looks quite strange to me. You might consider cloning the shadow out. But all in all, its a nice shot.

On the second, I like it. Its a well organized photo.

Both are sweet shots, but I am really digging #2. ...I guess you can't go wrong with the ol' "put the subject in the center of the frame" composition.

I like the second photo, but the first one is exceptionally beautiful. Thanks for posting. :toast:
