Columbus Basin Falls
Just a mile from Kennebec Pass at the head of La Plata Canyon west of Durango, this waterfall lies hidden in the forest about a hundred yards off of a rough road leading into Columbus Basin.

Canon 40D w/Sigma 10-20 lens @ 10mm
5 sec. @ f20 ISO 100
ND 8x filter

Wonderful image, John. I love the wide angle perspective and the foreground you were able to include. You sure had to work hard to get that 5 sec exposure! ISO 100, 8xND and f/20 !!! I certainly like the effect. :toast:

How are the wildflowers doing on the pass? I hope to be there by the end of the month.

This is stellar, John, and so perfectly composed. Was this recent?

Great image! Nice use of the ND. I agree about the comp.

Thanks for the kind words.
Yeah, it was taken yesterday afternoon, Todd.

I didn't make it up to Kennebec Pass itself, Bill.
However, the wildflowers are widespread up to within a mile of the pass where this was taken.

Thanks again, folks!

Love that shot John, and very impressive that you got the columbine and foreground flowers to hold still for that 4 second exposure! Lord knows I'm never that lucky keeping the wind off of flowers long enough to do that. Great stuff! :toast:

Sweet shot, John. I really like the comp and the results of the slow shutter.

Very nice! What a great "Colorado sampler" with the waterfall and wildflowers.

John, What a gorgeous shot! What a great find! I can't wait to get up there and explore around.

Beautiful shot, John. That must have been challenging. As much as I like water, it's the foreground that I really like in this one.

Very nice John! The flowers add the touch of color needed to make the image pop.

Thanks again!
I'll gladly provide more detailed directions to this spot should anyone choose to venture down this way. There are lots of different compositions availble here.

Wonderful shot John. The wildflowers really add that extra special touch to this scene.

Great shot John! Excellent foreground. I am glad the flowers held still for you during the 5 second exposure.

I kinda wish I could see more on the left side, but that's a minor nitpick. I really like the photo. Thanks for sharing.
