Santa Fe Flash Flooding!

One more before I'm off to the Grand Canyon. This was just a couple hours ago, right off the main drag (St. Francis and E. Alameda) in Santa Fe. The SF River was going pretty big, but it was child's play next to an arroyo feeding in from the north that got concentrated heavy rains. You could hear boulders rolling over in the flood and hitting the bridge abutments. It was truly a privelege to be in exactly the right place at the right time, with camera in hand!

Man, those monsoon rains are so close to Colorado, yet so far away! Cool shots!

I'd be a little nervous about driving on that bridge in #5!

Hope you get to see this again on your Grand Canyon trip - from a safe distance.
On my last trip, two years ago, we landed at Havasu at noon.
After about 1 hour of intense rain all the canyons flashed with lots of great waterfalls squirting into the river from the cliffs. Unfortunately we missed the wonderful hike and blue-green waters of Havasu Canyon, but the experience - at a distance - was awesome!

Awesome photos, Jackson. We had a monumental flash flood here in Moab a couple years ago. I know the sound you speak of and it IS quite disconcerting. I was standing by the bridge on Main St. watching the flood and a giant cottonwood tree got ripped right out of the ground and carried downstream. I'm glad you caught some of the action!

Yeah #5 is incredible... what a sight!

Looks like something went haywire at the Wonka factory... har har...

Impressive! Haven't seen flooding like that since the Big Thompson River flood in '76 and my hometown, southeast of Cañon City, flooded in '65. Oh, Denver got hit in '65 also.

I really like number 5 in the linked folder. The water looks very powerful. I live in Los Alamos and had no clue you guys got such a bad storm.

Eeyipe! I would definitely not be wanting to drive across that bridge. Great shots. #5 is extra-choppy special, but I also like the ones where you can almost see the wall of water hitting the bridge and shore.
