Gray Copper Gulch - San Juans
Here's a couple of shots of Red Mountain #1 reflecting in the ponds at the upper end of the gulch. What a gorgeous area this is. The image above was shot as soon as the sun illuminated the foreground.

This one was taken about 30 minutes later...

I don't know what they were thinking when they called it Red Mountain.

Beautiful shots and it looks like a really nice area.

I'm sure I've been here but I don't recall seeing these ponds. I'm glad you found them though, because both of these photos are gorgeous. The red/green contrast is awesome.

Both are very nice, Guy. I really like the composition in #2.

Beautiful! The color is outstanding. :toast:

Guy, Wonderful shots. I love both of them. It's nice to see you out shooting again. How long did you have to wait after sunrise to get this wonderful light?

Great stuff Guy!

Darren K. took me up there late fall a couple years ago, and I vowed to get back in the summer! This convinces me!!! Wonderful!

I really like both pictures, but #1 has a little more warmth that I find appealing. Is that ice in the water in #2? Beautiful location...great shots!

Thanks for the feedback, folks!

Laurie - the first shot was taken almost an hour past sunrise. Unfortunately, it takes that long for the sun to clear the opposing ridge.

Jamie - I would've preferred that to be ice, but it was actually just some pond scum. I almost felt like wading in and clearing it out, but the temp was in the upper 30s.

Beautiful stuff, like Bret said, the red/green combination works really well.

Gorgeous shots Guy! Is that ice floating in pic #2 ?

Fantastic! The first one is stunning.

Excellent images of a classic scene, Guy. I like the longer view of 2. How long after sunrise was it before the whole scene lit up?

Picture postcard perfect, Guy.

Say....is that ice in the water in #2?

Postcards are what come to mind for me. Nice stuff.

Really like the rich light and the reflection in the first image.

Thanks again everyone for all your comments.

Dave - While I'm not sure exactly how long it took for the sun to light up the whole scene, I think about an hour and 15 minutes would be a pretty good guess.

I've actually shot this in early-afternoon and it looks surprisingly similar. These are nice, Guy, although I'm still seeing that strange hdr-looking effect on #2.

I used a shot from here on the cover of my calendar one year, and one idiot told me he didn't like it because he lived near Cripple Creek, and it reminded him too much of tailings piles. What a noob.
