Flick of the tongue..!

One from the archives today but thought it was worth sharing nonetheless. It is one of my favourite grass snake shots but think it needs to be peer reviewed, so I would appreciate your comments on it. I have tried to recreate a moment like this with a number of encounters I have had since but none quite as clear as this.

The snake was sitting on bare earth with some dead bracken in the BG so it has an early spring feel about it which is when I took the shot. The light is natural and no flash was used.

Anyway, look forward to your comments.

I'd like the end of his fangs to be sharp but otherwise fabulous shot. The light background behind them is distracting too. Good work.

Terrific picture. Good sharpness on the eyes and the movement of his tongue is really moving. Good BG.

I'm liking pretty much everything Bill's disliking about this one :confused:

The slight motion blurring of the tongue contrasts really well with the perfect sharpness of the eye

The light behind the tongue makes it really IMHO. I've always liked this shot too Brett. I know how fast the tongue moves, so no real nit there.

Fab shot and the motion blur of the tongue really conveys how it flickers :smile:
Is there a small speck of mud at the bottom of the more distant fork? :wink:

Excellent image and the blurred fork just makes it even better for me. Your snake shots are really impressive.

Really like the picture and the motion in the tongue is very nice, but i'm distracted by the shadow of the head... Light was quite hard I believe?

Lovely shot with perfect timing-The light patch helps to show the tongue which would have been lost in the dark background-Great image to have on file
