Red Wing Blackbird
This morning for the first time in weeks I picked up my camera and left the house early. I thought Eagle Bluffs CA would have a bunch of birds etc to shoot. WRONG. I still spent 3 hours diddling around though. This fellow posed for me as I was driving past. It was shot from my p/u.

Good shot, Merle. I like how you got the blackbird's mouth open, as if it is singing out.

Three hours of diddling is better than three hours of work anyday! Glad you were able to get out, Merle. And a nice shot here of the RW blackbird. I remember trying to get a shot of one last year while working a prairie scene, and finally gave up...most birds shots are very difficult to come by for me.

This one's got a very prominent red shoulder patch ... very nice! I notice the one's around my yard and the patches run the gaumet in color density. You caught him in a very nice pose too Merle. Have fun out there!

Thanks for the comments. I haven't tried to shoot many birds with a long lens - it is a challenge.

Wayne; I noticed what you mentioned about the different colors of the patches on their wings. Some were very pale and then others very bright.

I also tried to include cat tails ala Brad Mangas: This is what I got with that.

Hi Merle, I really like red wing blackbirds. I see many around the lakes and have wanted to try to shoot one but never get a chance too. You got a good couple of captures, very noticeable. I find birds one of most challenging things to photograph.Glad you decided to get out with the camera, it does a body good.
