I put up a post earlier about performance differences betweeen my current Canon 20D, and a 40D.
I see now that the current Spring Canon rebates expire tomorrow, Saturday the 19th!! For the 40D, it's an instant rebate of $200.
Since I haven't bought anything in a while, I was just curious what typically happens with the Canon rebates. Once the current round of rebates expire tomorrow, do they usually come back with a new rebate program starting immediately afterwards?
Just want to make sure that I take advantage of the $200 rebate, if indeed it expires tomorrow.
Hi, Terry. Amazon.com currently has the 40D for $899 body only, and $1129 with the 28-135MM IS. That's with the instant rebate. It's such a good price that I recently bought myself a second 40D body. I've purchased lots of camera equipment from Amazon.com and have had 100% satisfaction experience.
The rebate may come back latter in the year when they announce the new equipment (usually in Sept) but it may not be the same as the rebate program they offer right now.
If your going to buy a 40D the Amazon $899. price is great, I'd also consider the lens if the funds are available. Make sure it includes a canon warranty The original price on the 40D was $1499. I use a 40D for backup and its been a great camera.

Terry,
Canon runs two sets of rebates in the US (and most other markets it seems). They run one in the Spring and one in late Fall around the Christmas purchasing season. Some items seem to show up frequently (like the 100-400L) while others are inconsistent.
For what its worth, the price on the 40D is really good. I'd jump on it now if you're thinking about it. Don't assume they'll offer the same or better in the fall. Of course being technology it will be obsolete as soon as you buy it, but if its the right camera for you, now is as good a time as any.
Thanks for the Amazon tip. Didn't look there. It's $939 at B&H, where I've gotten nearly all my equipment, and I thought that was cheap.
Went ahead and ordered from Amazon, after wasting the morning looking around town. There's not much for camera sales in Sioux Falls, and what is here is expensive. Went to a local place...their price? $1299, plus the $200 Canon rebate, still leaving it $200 more than Amazon.
Went to Best Buy...same thing...$1299 for the body alone.
I knew there was a reason my wife does all her shopping online!
