Large Emerald (Geometra papillionaria)

One of the nicest moths to come to light. This came into my bedroom and obligingly sat on a piece of bark. ( When I put it there !) They are usually very co - operative.
D200 Sigma 55 mm plus No 4 close up lens.
Ring flash ( yes flash in this case)
iso 200 f 22
Contrast down in camera.
Small tweaks in Paint Shop Pro.

Hi John
I like the image, nice crisp, sharp, do you normally have a piece of bark in your bedroom??

Very nice John,

Lovely colours, detail and sharp.

I'd be interested to know a bit more about the flash sync /shutter speed. Was the flash the main light source or fill in? At f22 with ambient light I would imagine a reasonably long exposure in your bedroom?

Cheers

Austin

A beautiful shot John, lovely colours (blokes with chocolates - can I come and visit?)

Kim- no !!

Austin The ring flash is the only source of light ,and with the 55 mm lens and close up I am only inches away from the subject, so f22 is easy. In fact I have had to baffle the flash down because its too powerful. I,ve put layers of micropore over it. The flas is on the front of the lens so its very close.
Cheers

Very nice looking Moth John in fact when you look closely most of them are jewels in ther own right. The bark is just the job as well. :toast:
It always surprises me how Moths react to what you put them on. As much as you try if its the wrong thing they wont have anything of it.
Its just got to be something to do with colouration or scent probably both.
