Green heron
I was sitting in my blind photographing Belted Kingfishers when I had something moving around next to my blind (6 inches). So I went to stand up and peek when this guy flew up. I fell back in my chair, I don't know who got startled more  .

I really enjoyed this image.

Have you ever seen the green heron stretch its neck??? Amazing.

Fun story Pete!! How long did it take for your heart to get back to normal? I've never seen a Green Heron. They're pretty.

Cool image and story Peter. I am with Bob on cloning the stick and giving this a little more USM.

Thanks Cris my heart was beating for a while  .Hi Bob and Mark, I think some birds don't come across well in this small compressed format. My basic work is USM then contrast, color if needed, small amount of noise reduction then USM as a final for the web. Here is a close up of the head I 'm afraid to go to far. I was not set up for flash in the 1/4 sun I bet that would help a lot
