I've been off the forum for quite awhile. The photograph above was taken in Baltimore's inner harbor. The fire boat was providing a little show at sunset for a cruise I was on while attending a 9-1-1 industry conference. It was a grab shot, but sort of cool.
The main reason I haven't been posting anything new is I can't see well enough to photograph anything. I had eye surgery in June to remove cataracts in both eyes. So, I now have artificial lenses. Unfortunately, there was some significan scaring after the surgery (not too unusual for people under 40 who have cataract surgery). This scaring clouds the lenses over and it essentially looks like I'm driving through fog all the time now. It can be corrected with lasers, but I have to wait several weeks after the surgery to get the scaring removed. I also have an astigmatism that must be corrected to have sharp vision again. So, I have been taking snaps of my daughter and relying on the autofocus, but that's the limit of my photography for the summer.
The scar tissue will be removed in a couple weeks. That should make a huge difference. After that, I have to schedule the surgery to correct my astigmatism. I've had a little preview of life after the astigamtism, and things look sharper and clearer than I can ever remember (the scaring developed over time, so I got a glimps before things got too cloudy). I'm am so looking forward to it.
So, I haven't been able to take new photos, work on old photos or much of anything. As far as I know, the fire boat may be way out of focus!
Anyway, if anyone wondered where I was, there is the answer. I hope to have 100% sharp eyesight by the end of August, so I guess I'll be gearing up for fall shooting!
I've been lurking a little bit, but everyone has been taking so many blurry photographs....use a tripod people!

Ryan,
Thank God being over 40 is good for something. Like I said in my email.. stay in touch and let me know when you are ready for a day out.
Good luck to one to the good guys!

Ryan,
The image is sharp. Obviously you didn't see the Mermaid. Hope the eyes get better and from the sounds of things, they will be better than ever. Hang in there.
Good to see you posting, Ryan. This image is pretty good for someone that "can't see"!
BTW, if I may ask, did the doctors say whether or not your early onset of cataracts were due to heredity or because of some injury in the past? I'm curious because I'd not heard of such early onset cataracts before your mention of it.
Geoff, it is probably genetic. My oldest brother had cataracts removed when he was 39. I am not quite 39. There are a number of reasons they can develop in younger people. I knew I had them since I was 26, but it took a few years until they really had an effect on my eyesight. My eyesight should be significantly better once everything is said and done. I'm just impatient as the weeks pass by without clear vision.
