Hello this is my first post on this forum,i am sure there are a lot of faults but i am very much a novice with a camera in hand.I do really enjoy my bird photography, was introduced to this art by and old freind of mine who is also a member of this forum and don't know if he thinks is insruction was a waste of time or not.
Hello Keith, welcome to the forum. This is a very nicely taken image, the bird is well exposed and sharp, the background is complementary and the beak full of food sets it off nicely. Not everyone will agree, but I would prefer to see the bird slightly offset to the left and looking into the image (and perhaps a touch off the top?). Also, it looks like some flash was used which has caused a slightly unnatural looking catchlight in the eye. Very good in all other regards though.
It would be helpful if you included technical details (camera, lens, shutter speed, aperture, ISO etc).
Hi Matt.
Thanks, sorry i missed the settings ect.
Shutter speed1/125.
F 9.
iso 250.
I sometimes find that a little flash does improve the sharpness of my picture, like i said very much a novice.
Hello Kieth
Good to see you got on here at last !
This is a great first post considering you only worked out which bit of a lens went at the front a while back.
I agree with Matt, a bit more space on the right would balance the bird better. Try not to get the bird or anything for that matter looking "out" of the frame. The insects want to be about half way if you can crop it like that as I assume it was off a landscape format shot.
Well done anyway. I am sure you will enjoy the forum, and any critique is only to help.
Cheers
John
Welcome to the forum Keith. If you are as new to photography as Johns reply suggests then you should be well pleased with this image. I agree with previous comments re positioning the bird less centrally but other than that I like this a lot.
all the best.

Hi Keith
I like your Meadow Pipit very much, particularly with the insects in the beak - good meal there! I find it very helpful having comments on the pictures that are displayed, and also the technical details which are given as well.
A super first shot - I am sure there will be many more,
This is great, first post or not. Nits covered - perhaps cropping off the left to the edge of the post and then adding some canvas on the right would help position the pipit better in the frame.
