I am back alive and well from my week sea kayaking trip over to the Island and let me say this - this place is wild and excellent! And I did not want to kill my father-in-law after the time either! Spent most of the time on the South Central part of the Island in the Moskey Basin area to Rock Harbor and a day paddle just East of Rock Harbor. If you get a chance to go - do it. It will not be my last time up there.

Some shots will be posted from there tonight or in the next day or so. I'll attach them to this thread once I process some. :wavey:

The dogwood plants were probably just a tad past peak as these were a little rough looking, thus I converted this to B&W. I added alittle Gaussian Blur to this one as well as I did not have any extension tubes nor my macro lens with me so this is the closest I could get with the 70 - 200. Shot at 70mm, f 13, 1/4 sec, ISO 100 with they new 1DS III. A couple more to come.

This is Rock Harbor looking Southwest to Moskey Basin. It had been thick fog all day and I mean thick, you could not see over 25- 50 yards in front of you all day. And I paddled through it! This capture was taken at about 9 pm that night as the fog was finally clearing somewhat.

1DS III
16 - 35 II @ 27, f 16 , 6 sec
singh ray 2 & 3 GND + 5 stop ND
tripod of course

Nice composition, Mitch. I like the repeating shapes a lot. I'd like to see a little more detail in the whites, but otherwise I like this a lot.

Hi Mitch,

Isle Royale has been on my to-do list for 25 years. Someday, I'll get up there, and you're images are only encouraging me!

Tim!

Sweet! You all ought to try Bois Blanc Island.. Closer and almost as wild.. No Moose or Wolf but plenty of shoreline and flora to shoot.. Primitive camping on the north shore with a view of Mackinac Island.. Try to locate the Michigan Rattler.. Kayak to Round Island for solitude and great hiking.. Historical lighthouses on Round and Bois Blanc.. I've spent my entire life visiting and still haven't seen it all.. Bois Blanc also has inland lakes and almost all the rare or endangered flowers listed for Michigan.. I should do a destination thingy to be posted here, hey? LOLO!! Glad you made it to the Isle, Mitch..

Good to see you back Mitch. So, great trip and a new camera...sounds like good times to me! You were kayaking to get around? I find myself agreeing with Chuck regarding the whites on the bunchberries; also, I understand the idea behind the blurring, but it simply looks like the image isn't sharp to my eye. I think I'd prefer a sharper rendition, warts and all. Cool wide angle scene. Did you find compositions hard to find as you moved from place to place? I look forward to what you post next!

One of these years I'd like to go there after hearing so much about Isle Royale. Looking forward to seeing what else you came back with, Mitch!
