I found this exquisite wood detail while on a shoot-fest with fellow CANPers, Harley Goldman, Lon Overacker and Dan Baumbach this past weekend. We had a grand time poking around the Sonora Pass country! This is a 16 bit Grayscale scan of a Polaroid Type 72 print adjusted a bit in PhotoShop.

Really nice, Preston. I can truly say that I have never worked with any B&W in films or conversions, but seeing this brings out reasons to try it at some point in time. Oddly, I just had posted a shot of a Juniper in color on ESS the other day. It was not a closeup capture like this one showing the very fine grain of the wood, but it was in some good light. We now look forward to more of your images and from everyone that did make the recent trek to Sonora Pass on this CANP outing. It sounds like the weather was good all the way around, including some clear skys too.
That scanned up nicely Preston. Looks good! Nice wood!

Preston,
This looks just like the polaroid you showed me - only better! You did nice work with bringing up the highlights and the texture and "color" or tonal variation show very nicely. Like Harley, I'm impressed how well this scanned.
Only nit - and perhaps it's just me and of course a comment that relates only to the web version because it would have nothing to do with how this printed - but this appears slightly oversharpened, especially in the darker lines. But again, pointless to really comment on for this small web version.
Ok, now that you and Harley have already posted, I'm stuck waiting for at least a week!
