Here is an image of a Kingfisher that I was photographing when the Green Heron scared the ---- out of me . I like the over the shoulder look and the detail!
Great capture. You got the catchlight in his eye. Looks great.

Peter,
Good evening. Great picture of a great bird. I have been trying for the last year to get some decent photos of one of these guys that hangs out by Stony Brook harbor (Long Island, New York).
I just can’t get close enough for quality pictures. I use a Canon XTi with a Canon 300 4.0 IS lens & Canon 1.4 tc. About a month ago I could not find any signs of him so I walked to photograph some wading birds and the Kingfisher & I scared the hell out of each other because he was sitting on the roof of a pavilion that I walked by.
Had I known he was there, just maybe I would have gotten some good photos. But that it part of the reason I love photography, the challenge and many times the unknown & surprises, good & bad.
Hey Peter! Cool pose and closeup! And nice clean BG!! I really like the soft light on him. Maybe a bump in contrast might help him jump out a bit better?
