Badger at new Sett(up)
Badger (female)
I tried altering the set up in the garden and re arrangeing the two flash heads. They are now much further away. I thought I'd go for a bigger head image too.
Through open kitchen window. I made a kind of tunnel for the animal to come through to attempt to create a more natural look. Not sure if it worked.

D200
Sigma 100-300mm
camera on manual. 160 ISO
Contrast down.
60th sec flash sync. f8
metz 402 two heads into one unit. at cf 15 ft.
Copious amounts of peanut butter.

Looks good to me. Re-arranging your flashes has worked very well.

I really like this one John. The 'tunnel' effect has worked well and the flash control looks spot on to my (uneducated about flash!) eyes.

I really like this too. Its a nice pose you've caught and the tunnel arrangement seems to have done the job.

Looks very good but it also looks... fake? It seems a bit too clean and clinical if you see what i mean, doesnt have that "in the wild" feeling to me?

Thanks all.
Paul- that's why I said I wasn't sure if it had worked. I agree with you entirely, but then any animal ,bird whatever done with artificial light at night will be fake. It would be alot better if it was done at the natural sett which is about 200 yards away, but I don't want to disturb them or the sett. At least doing them out the kitchen window means if they don't like it they can clear off !

As always. :toast:

Whatever the lighting, you've nailed this John. As good an image as you'll get using flash at night I reckon :toast:

Thanks guys.
I,m having a re think on this set up. Its great having the animals coming but I feel as though I am not getting the "feel" to the shots that I want. The foxes were different and relatively easy, but the badgers are different.
Thanks for looking.

John, would under exposing the flash help give it that nighttime look? Or maybe some gel's?
Posted by John Robinson on July 23, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Paul
It does actually make it look more nocturnal doing it software wise , but also more under exposed. I may try it tonight.
Sorry if I'm thick but "gel's" ??
Cheers

Hi Paul
See what you mean. i don't think the actual colour temp is the problem- I can adjust that to what I want. Its the flash look which is impossible to get rid of really.
Flash will always be flash. I.m fed up with badgers anyway so back to the dickies !!
Thanks
