Hi everybody,

An elderly friend at church just bought herself a little Coolpix, and I am looking for names of some some simple, inexpensive photo editing software that she might get. She can resize files in the camera and then download, but it's a little cumbersome. I looked at shareware but it also seemed rather cumbersome for a beginning photographer not already familiar with something like Photoshop.

All suggestions welcome. Thanks for your help.

None better than the free Picasa editing app. for what you're seeking, IMO.
It really doesn't get much simpler (..nor cheaper), and the superb image organizer is icing on the cake.

I second John's suggestion of Picasa.
PhotoFiltre is even smaller, only 1.6 MB, also free (and bug-free), and easy to use.
And FastStone's Image Viewer is between them in size, free, and does basic editing.
Especially for a beginner, these small, free image editors are the way to go.

A third vote for Picasa. Very intuitive, very simple, and very easy to undo any change that you don't like. I use it primarily for it's great image organizing/viewing functionality, but also use it for quick tweaks to snapshots and vacation photos that don't require the power of photoshop.

Picasa is great for simple editing. It's relatively intuitive, and fee from Google. And you can even view RAW files with it.

Has Google finally released a Mac version of Picasa? I can't find one.

Steve and everybody who answered,

I don't think there is a Mac version of Picasa yet. The Windows version is most helpful. Thanks again for all of the help.
