Well I made it back from my first backpacking trip into the maroon bells wilderness, what a great experience!! This was my first backpacking trip, and what a place to start. We couldn't do the four passes loop because of conditions, but we got lots of good hiking in where we could. I hope to post more photos in time, I have lots...
This is my first mountain shot in a while, let me know what you think.
Thanks, Kevin

Really nice composition and colors, Kevin. I backpacked into Crater Lake once but when I got there the whole thing was dry. Just a bunch of mud and one set of bear tracks smack dab in the middle of the "lake". Nice to see what it looks like with water in it!

A great image of the Bells. I wouldn't change a thing.
When we moved to Colorado in 1976, my first backpacking trip was to Crater Lake in the Fall.
We woke up in the moring with snow on the tent.
I myself have taken photos of the Maroon Bells from Crater Lake and LOVE the diffierent perspective that this lake offers from the usual, I really like the lighting on this, I took my photos in the afternoon during a thunderstorm. Your photo is of some much better lighting than I took from the same place
Did you walk around Crater Lake on the northern side and notice some of the small whirlpools created by the small springs draining from the lake,
I included some snapshots of the springs draining.
It was a great experience for me, I'm looking forward to more backpacking adventures out west in the near future. I will be leaving my LF gear in the truck next time though, it was simply too heavy in my pack with all my camping gear.
There was water coming down the mountians all over the place, we were surrounded by the sounds of fluid motion everywhere we camped around the lake, it was great to hear. I wished we could have done the four passes loop, but that will be next time.
