It's my pleasure to visit Kansas twice a year from the UK.
For a hobby I photograph all species of birds of which Kansas has so many.
I'm just getting to grips with my Canon and I would appreciate any critique and advice my PP is still on a learning curve so again any pointers would be most welcome.
This visit will extend through until 10/1/08 so I'd like to try and develop a local perspective.
Welcome back, Barry. Hopefully we'll cross paths again at a bird walk at Milford next month. Theoretically it should be on 8/16, in which case I'll be in Manhattan and would come over for the walk.

Hello Barry, welcome to back to Kansas. I would imagine that there are a number of species of birds to shoot within easy travel distance from Milford. I would think meadowlarks, eastern bluebirds and all manner of waterfowl to be within a short drives reach.
Rob, isn't Milford the area where they have a bald eagle informational/watching event sometime in January? What is the event in August focused around?
Barry, we hope you will post some of your shots here on CSNP. And don't forget, when you get back to the UK you're still welcome to pop in and share some images with us.

Thank you its good to be back. I attended the Wakefield Festival which was fantastic over 200 species and great people who located the birds and ID them. I'm like a kid with a new toy and use the camera at every chance. Some shots work out fine but a great deal are deleted. Kansas light is an issue that I need to master as I tend to go for grab shots as and when the oportunity presents its self. In these circumstances the tripod is not used either so handheld from a vehicle is the scenario.
I use a Canon 1D3 with a sigma 50mm-500mm lens.
Please feel free to critique and advise your comments are most welcome. Its my best chance to learn. I do struggle with some of the post adjustments aspects.
You're right Wayne, Milford has Eagle Day in January. Every month, Chuck Otte from Milford has a bird walk. I think it is usually the third Saturday of the month. He chooses the location based on what is happening at the time. Chuck is a very active member of the Kansas Ornithological Society. I've only had the opportunity to make one of the walks, but hopefully it will be 8/16 in which case I'll be in Manhattan and will make the drive over to Milford.
