Emperor Dragonfly ( female )
Canon 5D, 180mm, F13, 1/40, ISO 100, Tripod, Cable Release.

I was over the moon to come across this female Emperor resting on the head of this read. But as soon as I got near the wings started to vibrate, and that only means one thing she's going. So knowing this I just went straight in and set up as fast as possible. There was no time to check the depth of field, and I only just managed to focus and get three shots of before she was gone. Although this is not the final result I would normally have gone for, I am quite pleased with what I did get. And it as given me a more true to life picture than I normally produce. And I was surprised when the body turned out sharp with some nice movment in the wings.

Thanks for looking

you may not have had long to take these shots Guy but you did well to get your camera parallel to the body and so the abdomen is all nice and sharp. So many times when I hurry a shot like this I end up with the tail being slightly soft. Nice work and I like the effect of the blurred wings.

Hi Guy,

Awesome shot! Love the blurr in the wings as it really add a sense of being there and total sharp where it matters!

Can't agreed more. Lovely movement in the wings. Not immediately obvious but gives you a surprise when you have a good look.

Good reflexes Guy, the wing blur does give something different than the usual dragon shots

Excellent shot guy, I can almost hear those wings 'buzzing'.
