Wash, rinse, repeat... multiple times for this poor frog

I took this image during the VLF Wildlife Photo Competition. It's wonderful detail & clarity at 100%. There had been no activity for over 2 hours, and it was already in the low 90's, so I started to pack up. Unfortunately that was the 2nd time in 3 days I'd just put my 300/2.8 back in the SUV.

Literally with one leg in the blind (the rest of me is outside the blind), this pair of GWE flew in (while the blind is wide open in the back, unzipped), and literally landed 20-30 feet on the other side of the blind!! All I had was the 500/4.5.... Unfortunately I didn't have a CPL for the 500/4.5, and it happened so fast, I had no time to adjust EV Comp to -1 or so to avoid some blowout on the highlights.

It drove me nuts!

Really nice, Marc! I think you came away with a great image, despite the shortcomings. A vertical might have been worth trying, but it sounds like your time was limited. Very sharp and nice background.

Mr. Frog sure is kicking and thrashing...oh well, egrets gotta eat too.

well done under the circumstances, I always like birds with food photos :)

Fantastic shot Marc, everything is really sharp, but the eyes make the shot, thanks for sharing.

Really nice for a grab shot Marc. Isn't that the way it goes ... wait for what seems an eternity and then when the equipment is all packed up opportunity knocks! Hope your experience in the VLF was a good one.

Oh, I forgot to mention you could have posted this larger (720 pixels on longest side) for more impact.

Great shot Marc. A little post processing will fix the exposure problem (probably more than a little :)). Too bad about the 300 that with the 500 is a lot of glass to lug around.

When I was in FL earlier this year the pro that was showing me around told me it is best to leave room for the birds leg even if they are in the water. I never thought of it before but it does make a difference.

Thanks Everyone for the comments - I've taken Ed Cooley's suggestion and fixed the exposure as best I could, and didn't realize I could add another image later on in the post... oops.
