Well Done. I have been trying as well and the only time they have been close enough it is either raining or in very poor light. I personally would crop out the leaf in top right of image.

Congratulations Mark. We have a few pairs around here but I've yet to get near them. Nice composition with a lovely clean background yet still giving a sense of habitat. I don't know if it is the compression but it looks a touch soft on my screen. Perhaps needs a little more sharpening after compression?

They're special birds aren't they! I got my first bullfinch shot this year too, I'd love to get more.

A wonderful shot - as mentioned - lovely background, and I too like the surrounding leaves. A nice pose too - leaning out of the foliage. I agree that it could do with a bit more sharpening, on my monitor anyway.

A cracker for a first bullfinch shot!!

The positioning on the branch etc is spot on but the bird is in need of sharpening. Trouble is that if it's not there in the original it just isn't there,.

I agree with John about the focus point but hey, its a cracking start especially if its your first attempt at capturing this species. I like the leaf foilage, it adds a hell of a lot to the image.

Hi Guys thanks for the feedback  .
I know how to sharpen for print, the A4 print i have done is pin sharp.
I dont seem to be able to get the USM right for Web.
I sharpen the RAW, and also apply NR using Capture NX. Then Crop and export a maximum Quality JPG.
In Photoshop I resample to 720pixels and reduce the quality to around 8 or 9 so i get in under the 200k for the site limit. I leave the resolution at 300DPI.
I only do 1 pass of USM in the RAW stage. I dont do any in photoshop, is this where i am going wrong ??
are there any information i can read to sharpen for web uploads ??

Sharpen it again after you have reduced it to 720 pixels, Mark. It goes soft again when you reduce it.
