Boat on Beach
Canon EOS 1Ds MKII, 16-35 f2.8, 16mm, f22, 1/160, ISO 400, RAW, RSE, CS2, Manfrotto 055 tripod, Arca swiss ball head, cable release.

Hi All,

Another from my walk along Cley beach. When I composed this image in the viewfinder I did not notice that the boat was cutting into the Sea line, looking at it now it really bugs me, Does anyone else think it is a major problem or is the image not strong enough to start with and I should bin it  , I'm still learning landscape composition, so feel free to let rip

All comments welcome

Regards

Rob

Its a little unlike wildlife but I spose it could have been a bit wild when it got there, I thought Cannons were only for shooting wildlife.

baring all that, it has some appeal were is Robinson,

One step to the right!!

I like the soft colours and detailed sky, but I think a slice off the left, and as you say more room between the boat's nose and the sea, but I wouldn't say thats a major prob, just something to remember next time!

Oh, I also like the angle of this!

I am not really a landscape man but the bow of the boat and the sea line was the firstthing that hit me ! So there must be something inwhat you though also. It may have been nice with a low view and the tip of the boat up in the sky ?

Rob, I'm afraid this doesn't work for me at all. The lighting is a bit flat and the view doesn't have enough interest in it to hold my imagination. The boat is a bit modern and lacks any character. One redeeming feature is the interesting sky.The only thing I can see which may have improved it would have been to physically move the boat around so it is pointing in the direction of the two diagonal lines (sea and shingle / shingle and distant land) which converge in the distance. Sorry to be so negative Rob but on the bright side I'm a crap landscape photographer so what I've said may well be a load of rubbish. At least you have tried whereas I have practically given up on them.
All the best

Rob, this is dull in color, but if you made it monotone/black and white, darken down the reds and blues and make the sky really moody, crop a bit off the left you might have a decent image. You also need to move the boat further up the beach of course, maybe you have another one taken from more to the right so the boat isnt cutting the sea line.
The diagonal line of the boat is powerful. Maybe the horizon wants to be further off the middle too, closer to the thirds line.
