Weasel
Hi to all,

Not been around much lately as i've been putting in the ground work at a new Weasel site , so apologies for the lack of contributing posts over the last few weeks.

After 3 weeks of Bag hide work (without camera) and a further 2 weeks of studying his routine i'm finally managing to get some pretty close views of this particular Weasel.

This chap is lightening fast and an outstanding hunter , last night I watched him chase down a Wood Mouse and despatch it with a single bite to the back of the neck , unfortunately it was a little too dark to capture a sharp shot of this behavior.

I went for a central composition on this shot to try and emphasize that gorgeous face and those beautiful eyes  any views on the comp would be appreciated , thanks for looking.

Canon 1D3 , 500F4IS+1.4T/c , Gitzo1325 , Wimberley v2 , WWS Bag Hide and i'm all squeaked out

1/1250th @ F6.3 iso400 ( almost full frame , cropped for comp )

All comments most welcome

Kind regards

Andy...

Your hard work's certainly paying off! That's a lovely portrait. I just had a go at cropping off the left side to give equal space to each side, and I think it gives more balance to the composition without losing the impact of that stunning face. Great POV, at the animal's eye level - perfect!

Its fine and no need to apologise, the groundwork is the important part that is certainly giving dividends.... love the shot as it is, super, a great pleasure to view...

That's two consecutive posts where I have to agree with Phil!
It's the ground work that makes images like this and gives the satisfaction. Very well done.

Excellent shot Andrew. Comp is fine as it is, the fact that the weasel is looking directly at the camera makes the central composition work very well. A lovely image of a very difficult subject.

Lovely shot! Great eye contact. I love these little guys, so beautiful. It must be great to have a Weasel site, the ones round here range over a huge area, and never appear in the same place for weeks...

Cracking shot Andy and well worth the hard work. The comp works for me. I used to see these around here quite often, but not for quite a few years now.

Really good image Andy. Comp looks very good to me. Wish I could have a bash at these... I had Stoats around which seem to have vanished. Do you know if they stay in a particular area or move on frequently? Great image :toast:

Hi Graeme,

I know that Weasel's will hold a territory , though it can be over a very large area , not sure about your Stoats though.
