Death Match
today at the marsh in green island i witnessed one of the most vicious attacks i have ever seen, shockingly is was between dragonflys.
The light blue one on the bottom intercepted the darker fly in mid flight, both of them crashing to the ground.
the light blue fly stayed on his back keeping his legs on top to grip the other fly.
When he had the dark fly secured he chewed off one wing and then its head.
At 51 years old i have seen some terrible things, but oddly enough i was kind of shocked.

canon xsi tamron 200-500mm all the way out at 500mm

I've never seen this with Draogonflies. I did see it with ordinary flies (different species) who eat each other.

Dragonflies are known to kill and eat some of their own  - gruesome but that's how it goes.

Yes, despite our best efforts as photographers at times, nature isn't perpetual sunrises, sunsets and impeccable flowers. It also has a harshness that is undeniable. You've captured it well here. Great behavioral pic.

Nature at times can be very cruel. I'll never forget the Trumpet Swan at Seney WLR that killed a Canada Goose gosling, even though the Goose family was nowhere near the Swan's nest.

Thanks for sharing this interesting moment, Wally.
