Leucistic Kite (Gigrin)
Hello

Went for my first trip to Gigrin at the weekend, a great experience I'd recommend! I believe there is only one Leucistic Kite that frequents Gigrin, and I was lucky to see it as due to its pigmentation other Kites and buzzards tend to pick on it (so Chris the owner told me)

I got a little exited when I saw it and consequently the majority of shots were blurred or badly framed and I even forgot to set my shutter speed lower  so it's totally static, oh well, you live and learn but I feel quite happy that I saw it and got a shot that was half decent anyway.

techs,
D300 300mm 2.8 VR + 1.7 TC (500mm)
AF-C, AWB, handheld, 1/1250 sec at f4.8
cropped square and a little sharpening in CS3

cheers for looking

Interesting bird, what is with the weird tail feathers? Is it new ones coming out of pin or due to limited gene pool?

It's just the new feathers coming out of pin - although they do look wierd! On the full size image you can see clearly the pin unfurling

cheers

Interesting bird. Nice picture.
I love the "strange" feathers. They give the bird something special.
