Hi Folks, I'm poaching over here from the RMNP board. I have a chance to be in Alabama, specifically the Birmingham area around the first weekend of October. Since I'll be missing the peak of the aspen colors here in Colorado I was wondering when the hardwood forests in your neck of the woods start changing. I've heard a bit about Ruffner Mountain and seen some images from there that look promising but I'm looking for inspiration and locations within about a 60 mile radius of Birmingham. Help!

Hi William,

Birmingham, Alabama? I would guess the 1st or 2nd week in November.

You'll be way too early for fall color in Alabama. The Deep South is still rather warm in October so the foliage peaks later in the fall.

Even though you are a little early for the fall foliage, try going up I20 east about 60 miles from Birmingham to Mount Cheaha State Park. This is the tallest point in the state. You willn't be disappointed. Check out the state park link. Only $1.00 per car to get in the park.

Check it out!
