Bring back memories to anyone?
I've seen this shot posted before and thought I'd give it a try.
I waited until only the mountains were illuminated by the sun to put the mid-ground in darkness.
Comments welcome.

I noticed a lot of Buddhist monks in Aspen and wondered what was going on. Turns out the Dahlia Lama was in town and John McCain showed up for a meeting with him.

I did my meditating while camping in the mountains!

This place is certainly on my "to see" list. Maybe this fall...

This is a real classic, Rod - beautiful shot!

That is a beautiful shot. When was it taken? I was there last Wednesday. Looks like you were there early.

Mike,
I was there Thursday about three am and then camped overnight at Crater Lake just above Maroon Lake. Looks like we just missed each other.

A different take on a classic setting Rod. The strong contrast between shadow and highlight is dramatic. As I mentioned on Mike's post, this is a place I hope to see one day. Thanks!

Rod, nice take on the Classic Maroon Bells. I have been going there since the early 80's and I never get enough of this place! For those that have never been to the Maroon Bells, there is nothing like standing in the spot that Rod took this picture from. It is hard to describe how dramatic it is! Thanks for sharing.

Nicely done Rod. The shadows really set off the reflection. Unique capture and well done.

Thanks Tom-
I hear you had a 'Rocky Mountain High' experience at Crater Lake. The only local I met was a deer peering into my tent at about 1 am in the morning. Scared me a little until I confirmed it was a deer and not something with claws and big teeth!

Great shot Rod. I agree that the shadows really help highlight the mountains and reflection, a little different than the usual Bells shot.

This actually does bring back a lot of memories for me. Years ago some friends and I were camping near there the night before our climb of the Bells when a search and rescue helicopter flew right over our camp. According to the rescuers that we talked to as they hiked out,"some guy fell 200' and went splat". Needless to say, we were a little more careful the next day but had a great climb.

Thanks for sharing.
