Crescent Beach, Oregon
Just back from 10 days in Oregon-Washington. Here is the result of an experiment at Crescent Beach, Ecola state Park, Oregon.

Nice shot. B&W was a good choice. Wish we saw more scenes like this in Wisconsin.

You're teasing me Patrick! We lived in Oregon for 10 years until 2004, and there are definitely no scenes like this here in Cincinnati. You don't often see B&W's of the Coast. One thing you might do is knock out the flare spots in the LLC, but other than that, nicely done!

That is not the shores of Lake Michigan!! I agree that B & W was a good choice. Very nice!

I like the idea, but the extreme blown highlights (at least on this monitor) are distracting to me. If you have a way to process this so that the contrast range isn't so extreme I think that would help....

Wish there were rocks that size on/in Lake Michigan. I've only been to Oregon coast once but would sure like to get back there again sometime. Thanks for sharing this image, Patrick!

Looks like a great place to shoot. Black and white works well in this case, though I find myself echoing CJ about the extreme highlights. It probably would be less objectionable in a print, where the brightest white was the paper, rather than a backlit screen.

Definitely a good choice to go with b/w. Ideally I'd prefer this without the blown highlights, but I don't view them as a deal breaker by any means.

Ecola has long been a favorite of mine, too, Patrick. I've never chosen b/w, though, because the sunsets are so dramatic there. I like what you've done here. B/W works well in this shot!

I just came back from the west coast, too. I was in Washington and I very much enjoyed the coastline, mountains, and animals out there, but I hear the coastline is even more breath taking in Oregon. I have to get out there, maybe next summer.

The only trouble I have now is, I'm having trouble picking up the camera back here at home. I find the inspiration running low. Everywhere I looked out there were great opportunities to capture great images. Back home it seems like the same old, same old. I guess around here I need to try harder. That's why I like seeing what the other "local" folks are capturing. That seems to help.

Hey Mike...You've touched on the classic midwest nature photographer syndrom. That's a topic in and of itself!
