30D, 100-400mm @ 190mm, ISO 640, f7.1, 1/640sec, +2/3EV. PP in LR. Wing tags cloned out.

First image post for me here, let's hope it works...

Shot last December at Scotland's answer to Gigrin, Bellymack Farm in Dumfries and Galloway. The weather wasn't the best hence the ISO but fortunately this particular bird happened to fly under a bluer patch.

Apart from the noise and the cloning it was one of the best, lighting wise. I feel the space around the whole frame gives a sense of distance. Spectacular birds especially on a frosty day.

Let me know what you think.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum :wavey: A nice first post that for me has a couple of little nits. Firstly I think it needs a little more sharpening at the moment it looks a little soft (try USM at 100, 0.2, 0. Give it about 5 rounds and see what it looks like) Secondly, is it possible to crop it so the bird is not in the centre of the frame? Put it more top left so it has space to "look" into. Also could have benefitted from a blip of fill flash.

HTH

Regards

Rob

Welcome! :wavey:

Nice first post! I feel like a mouse.... I agree the bird is a little dark underneath, but looks like you could lift it a bit? I like the viewpoint as it's a bit different to a lot of shots of these birds. I agree it could do with a bit of cropping for the composition, but not entirely sure what. Perhaps so the bird is dead centre would be interesting, or as Rob says...
