Kingfisher
I don't normally go for head shots but it makes a difference now and then I suppose. Some subjects lend themselves to it. This is a shot I came across whilst doing a request list search tonight. (Yes! people are still buying my rubbish !!) Its a big crop off a full body shot. but the bird was only about 7 foot away.
D200 Sigma 100-300mm
160th second 400 ISO
Contrast down 1 in camera
EV down three bars.

You can see it's a crop but a very nice image indeed. I don't think it's too tight at all. If you are doing a head shot then you don't need any extraneous background.. does what it says on the tin!. Beautiful John.

this is a really magnificent portrait. taking such a massive crop of a bird thats so small really does show off the beauty of them sometimes more so than shown full bodied. - kind of makes them more human in a way.
anyway, this is the type of shots i like to shoot myself given the opportunity, although so far, my experience of the Kingfisher has been limited to about 30ft away from a Nature Reserve hide and even with a 400+2x TC, its still too far away to get intimate.
excellent John, it's not often we see such detail on a kingfisher.

Thanks all.
I've posted the full frame, and as you can see the perch was rubbish. I think its good to make changes all the time. That way the hobby never gets boring.
