and capture1 together or any other Raw converter?
I tried out the Beta2 of lightroom, and before I pay the hefty sum for the upgrade would like to know your experience about this combo. I liked the concept of catalogs and collections in Lightroom and would have liked to upgrade if it was not this costly across the Atlantic. As I already own C14 and can get a copy of expression2 very much cheaper than the LR upgrade, I would like to know how it fares againt LR. Any books, or online resources to read more about Expression will be appreciated.

I have used Expression Media and am very unhappy with the upgrade policies of the software developer consequently I would not and cannot recommend them.

You will be much happier with Ligthroom and with / or Aperture.

I just looked at the MS Expression website. Here is the upgrade eligibility info for Expression Media-2:

$99 (Full Version $199)
For qualifying owners of:
Licensed copy of an earlier version of Expression Media
OR
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
Adobe Photoshop Album
Adobe Photoshop
Apple Aperture
ACDSee

I use and very much appreciate Expressions 2.

I was originally an iView user and was upgraded to Expressions 1, free of charge. Expressions 2 which has quite a significant speed upgrade, was a $99 upgrade. Well worth it in my opinion.

For a pure DAM application, my vote is for Expressions 2.

My workflow involves importing my Canon RAW files, rating, keywording, sorting, etc. in Bridge, converting to DNG and then importing into Expressions 2.

While the new version of Lightroom is very impressive, I think it has a long way to go as a DAM application.

My big test is indexing 100,000+ images and conducting some searches based on a number of keywords. In my tests Expressions always outperforms Lightroom. I could see using Lightroom to sort, rate, metadata, and RAW process my files, but for DAM functionality, I'm sticking with Expressions for now.
