The flowers weren't great; so took this of Yankee Boy Basin at sunrise. Actually, trying to get a good composition without the wildflowers was fun. Comments appreciated.
I was planning to head out of Silverton for some photograhy over the next few days. Any recommendations for remaining wildflowers?
Thanks
Sal

Really nice comp, Sal. I'd maybe lighten the background just a bit, but this is a nice shot either way. Weird year in YBB, eh?
Sal,
I think this is a very strong composition. The exposure and light are also compelling. The placement of the stream flowing right to left to meet up in it's "s" curve with the "s" curve of the snow in the middle left side, that leads my eye up to the light on the peaks, and across to the right to the larger peak, and then finally back down to the lighter dead trees, and back to the stream, makes a nice cirlce for the eye to follow.
It would have helped, imho, to have a touch more space at the bottom and the top. But, I bet something in the lower portion prevented you from doing this. So it does not matter. I like this very much.

Beautiful light! I like this exposure, but I tend to the darker side .
For flowers out of Silverton Stony pass and American Basin are worth checking out if you haven't already. Darren Kilgore posted (on CNP) some nice shots of columbine fields at American basin from last weekend. Stony pass was nice a couple of weekends ago. Hard to say what is left.
Thank You. The critiques are appreciated and I will try to incorporate what I can. Tomorrow, I'll try Stony Pass and American Basin. I have not been there yet. Thanks Kalin
the lighting on the mountaians is great but the foreground just seems a little flat to me, but I am the newbie to this site too, so take what I say with a grain of salt
The composition is very effective with the "s" curves as Morris mentioned. Light is very nice on the peaks, and well balanced out in the fg. I would of liked to have see a little more room at the bottom to separate the water from the edge of frame, but besides that a great image!.
thanks for the encouragement. There are so many beutiful places in Colorado. The challenge for me is to develop an appropriate sense of compositon. The work in this forum is outstanding and will surely help me to improve.

The curve of the stream definitely makes this one more interesting.
As for flower spots, if you haven't already left. My wife and I were in that area Saturday and Sunday.
American Basin is still in good shape. Lots of columbines, larkspur, paintbrush and coreopsis. The chiming bells are starting to wilt in the heat of the day.
Lower Ice Lake Basin is amazing. Its a hike, but the flowers were taller than I've every seen them before. Some larkspur (delphinium) were shoulder high.
