Proof of Light
Sunrise at Lake of Glass, RMNP. Tough place to shoot, as the lake (and its nearby neighbor Sky Pond) is so darn close to the surrounding vertical terrain. This certainly doesn't come close to some of the excellent stuff Erik has from here, but that's not surprising for many reasons. (Access, talent, ambition, etc.)

Pretty! I like the low contrast look of the bg, great glow too. Looks like Erik's famous blue skies followed you--it's the Stensland curse i tell you

Very tough area to shoot, Todd, I have been there a lot. I like the spot you picked, on the south side of the lake it seems. A few clouds here (I know Erik must have been nearby!) would have done the trick!

Few clouds would of been nice, but we take what u can get sometimes!. The light is cool, looks like GOG :), I really like the reflection on the water of the orange glow!.

NIce glow and overall rugged feel to the image. Nice work getting up there in time ~ how far is the hike?

Clouds or not, I like this!

Todd...what a place!! I haven't seen anything like it!! I think it is because I don't usually leave the trails of familiar places!! I like the rock formations itself and the glow!! Beautiful details and sharp foreground. Is this a hard place to get to?? regards, Rajeev. :toast:

Glad you got up there Todd. It is an amazing place, especially with the waterfall climb on the way up. I enjoy the shadow of Thatchtop on the Cathedral Spires that you captured.

Great glow on this one Todd. It might have been nice to have a few clouds, but I don't really mind. It's great enough to be at this place in time for sunrise after having to climb the side of Timberline Falls. I agree it's a challenging place to capture due to the proximity of the peaks, even with a wide angle lens.

I really enjoy the contrasting, yet oddly complementing grey massive in front of the fiery colored peaks.

At first I thought that was a separate formation in shadow until I noticed the fracture/erosion patterns lining up perfectly with the rock in light. Agreed that it's a tough place to work a comp, but this is a worthy shot for sure.

The light seems a bit odd in the alpenglow areas - a little too blue/cyan maybe?

That's pretty craggy terrain Todd. The clarity of the lake is really nice.
