Heron with flounder
One of those days when everything just seems to come right. The day I shot this I also photographed a kingfisher and an otter (though the otter was a bit distant) from the same hide.

Very nice image Robert, that back lit flounder looks so good, like it lots.

Like it, and indeed the sun through the flounder really makes it.

Great shot of interesting subjects. I would crop out the top OOF highlights, which I think would make the viewer concentrate a little more on the coloured reflections in the lower half.

a well timed image and the clarity of the fish really adds to it. I agree with Ben's compositional suggestion.

I find your image somewhat hard to swallow :jump:

Lovely shot. Agree with the suggestion on cropping the top of the image a bit.

Cheers,

Dan.

Minor nits covered. Would also be great if you could darken the bright bit underneath the heron a touch. Otherwise the flounder gives it some humour

Thanks for all the comments and I have taken on board the suggetsed improvements. Yes, this heron did manage to swallow the fish eventually but it took quite some time. A week ago I watched another heron catch a smaller flounder but after trying to swallow it for what seemed like ages it finally gave up. Later, even after catching and eating a couple of eels, it went back to the fish and tried again but still failed. So I guess the bird in this picture was a bit more experienced..... or maybe just greedier!
