Anyone have advice on where to find good fields of sunflowers or have I missed the season?

Bill,,,I can tell you where not to go. Last week I traveled through the state of Kansas to Kansas City and didn't see one field of sunflowers. When stopping over I asked a hotel clerk what was happening? She told me beans were being planted instead of sunflowers as beans take less water.

Last year the sunflowers went crazy in Pueblo West, this year it's just all dead. Hopefully with the rain that will start tomorrow things will green up.

Last year there were several reports of sunflowers in the fields along Tower Road near Denver International Airport. I don't know if they were planted this year in that area, but if they have been they should be appearing within the next three weeks, so your timing is probably good. Has anyone been in that area recently?

Bill, here in Oregon the sunflowers seem much smaller this year. I think our delayed summer caused a lot of havoc. Our birds went into hiding for awhile, too. Very odd.

I found a huge sunflower field last year by E-470 & I-70. The sunflowers typically peak around around end of August. Good luck...

Nothing out here, not a thing..... :( I hate to say it but the Sunflowers along I-70 appear to be history. They were spraying a few weeks ago but whatever it was seems to have killed what started to grow there. Last year on flickr someone posted a image of a massive Sunflower field out around Jewel and E-470. I never did go looking for it....may have to get in contact with him and see if it's there again

This shot on flickr http://flickr.com/photos/rockypix/181245503/ says "The sunflowers were at the intersection of the Berthoud, Colorado Road and Interstate 25." Anyone in that area who can venture out to check???

I noted a few folks on flickr who shot at locations last year I am unfamiliar with asking if they were there this year. If I hear back I will let ya all know. An advance search on flickr for Sunflowers shows nothing in the way of Sunflower fields at all from this year. Usually there are are TONS of images by now.

I think I saw the field on I-25 and Berthoud last year and it was pretty good, I can probably take a look down there, thanks for the comments even if we haven't found the holy grail yet! Let's keep looking.

I drove up to Wellington and there are several fields with sunflowers at peak close to I-25, just south of Wellington. Where the irrigation is more effective the flower heads are bigger. Enjoy.

I was having a good time until I fell over a fence and strained my thigh and bruised it pretty badly so I'll be limping for a few days. No fool like an old fool!

I was just told by a Co-Worker who lives out in the country that there are several sunflower fields just down the road from his house. That would be Weld County Road 49 & I -76 area. Around Keensburg.

I have only published a couple on my Photo-A-Day section of my website Paul, I need to keep some for comps. The crop duster was fun coming really close.
