Mating Burnets

Took my new D300 for a test drive over the weekend. I don't normally dwell on technology as to me it's just a tool. But I have to say the handling is so much better than my previous 2 bodies, the D50 & 80. Unlike many reviews on the web, I didn't find the noise control to be noticeably better than say the D80.

I was mainly shooting at higher ISOs as it was breezy on Sunday. Although this pair of 6- (5?) Spot Burnets were very accomodating, the moo-moos grazing the field wasn't. One of the bull came uncomfortable close - probably just curious, but I had to get up and leave. It looked rather intimidating 5 feet away from a low angle. Anyway, here's one of the few frames I did manage to grab.

As always, comments welcome.

It's a very nice image Des, a little tight at the top for me, if you have the room, a crop to portrait would work a treat.

Yes I agree. Nice and unusual composition.
Beautiful Scabious flower too.

A few of us UKNPers had some great photo opportunities with some of these guys over the weekend, this shot is very well executed, well balanced and with great DOF.

This is really nice. The angles of the antennae really make it for me.

Thank you all for your comments.

Andrew - this one's full frame, so can't squeeze anymore space out of it, but I did take a few in portrait format. Perhaps I'll post them some other time.

Hi Des

Very nice image - the detail is great, and F20 doesn't seem to have resulted in much (if any) softness in the image. Colours are great too.
