Barn Swallow in flight-Hirundo rustica
Due to my recent incredible workload i have been absent for a while for wich i apologize. Unfortunately i still have too much to do but as i work at the top floor of our home i can still hear all sorts of birds flying by from Buzzards to Kingfishers to Barn Swallows. The last ones do tend to perch at my neighbours roof and allthough they are very fast and difficult to capture after many shots i do get one in front of my lens every now and then.

Greetings,

Jeroen Stel

 I've just written an article on the most difficult birds to capture and this was top of the list - please tell me this has just left the perch otherwise I am selling my gear and quitting! Outstanding Jeroen! :toast: :toast:

Hi Elliot,

Better start selling your gear as there was no perch here...
This one just flew right at me as it wanted to land on our roof but whem it saw me it moved sideways and i could get this shot.
Not an easy task though indeed...

Good skills! What would you say your hit rate is?

Very nice indeed. Great comp. too.

Hit rate was one out of 3 i guess....
But i really needed them to get close enough to get enough DOF because the ones i shot further off where O.K but less detailed.

Jeroen

This really is a fantastic flight shot IMHO. What a great example of the merits of the 1D3 in the right hands.

Great shot Jeroen, love the position in the frame and the arc of the wings

excellent shot. i tried to shoot one flying low feeding but it was too fast for me!

Fantastic shot Jeroen. As Elliott said, this must be one of the hardest birds to photograph in flight...fast, erratic and small! A one in three success rate sounds mighty impressive to me.

Very well done-lovely capture-the wing spread is great-1 in 3 though think you should practice some more

I can't believe that you missed two perfectly good shots.
I just think that even getting one in the shot and blurred would be an achievement, but to get one sharp and with the wing position spot on is a near miracle or you are superhuman. If it was luck can you send me the numbers for next weeks lottery please?
Brilliant
