I'm still new at photoshop, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good website or had some pointers on how to create nice canvas borders. I see many images posted on here with drop shadows and have a 3-d effect that I like, but I have no idea how to create those.

One of the great things about Photoshop is the ability to use 'actions', which are an automated series of editing steps.
Several dozen of these 'actions' are freely available at Action Central. You can click on the Downloads link and scroll down to 'Frames & Mattes', where there are several 'actions' that will create a variety of frames and mattes at the click of a mouse.
There's also a FAQ link on how to load and use them.

Any advice/suggestions are appreciated

Thanks John, I have some reading and testing to do...
