Just returned from a trip to the San Juan Mountains in CO to shoot wildflowers.
Weather was excellent but even on the last week of July it was still a little early for wildflowers. By the end of the week things were really popping making it tough to head home but that is pretty typical for my trips.
Was able to get Todd Caudle to show me around for a few days. If you ever need a guide in Colorado I can heartily recommend him.
Several more images from the trip posted on my blog if you care to check them out.
I saw the photograph you posted in the RNMP site and it was beautiful! Was that shot taken near Telluride or Ridgeway? It was the same one in your blog lableled Sneffels Range. What a great vantage point!
I will be in Colorado next week, do you think the wildflowers will hold until then?
Based on your advice, Blackbear Pass was the first place I went! It was beautiful but pretty sparce flower wise. Probably needed another week or so if you can imagine that. When we first got there Stony Pass was totally blank but by the end of the week it looked amazing. That is were the paintbrush image was captured.
The Sneffels Range image was taken southwest edge Ridgway.
Governor Basin was still snowed in but the other basins were starting to pop pretty well by the time I left. They might be ok but your best bet will probably be the passes. Last week would probably have been peak for most of the areas I visited.
This second image was taken on Blackbear Pass Road.

Nice perspective on the flower shot Ed. I saw a wealth of wildflowers during my four days there but they were in isolated patches and individual flowers, nothing as widespread as this. Nicely done.
