Please give me any advice,i took this picture of Golden Plovers in Teesdale and since had long discussions on if to try removing the out of focus bird at the back,as i have said before i am very much a novice but i do like the picture as it is but would appreciate any advice.

Frankly Keith I wouldn't try to remove it. It looks quite interesting as it is. If it were my image I would perhaps 'tidy' up a few minor things like the stick in foreground, the highlighted grass stems from in front of the rear bird etc and posibly tone down the eye of the out of focus bird.

Thats a great image. But yes it's a shame the other one in in the BG.
You could go mad with the clone tool and take him out

Hi Kieth
We've talked about this as you know. Personally the bird at the back doesn't bother me that much. I agree with Robert though that some toneing down would help. To clone the back bird out is not as straightforward as it looks !!
Anyway - say you wanted both birds in and you planned it like that !!
Cheers

if you do decide to remover the bird from the back, choose an area similar to the area you want to cover and build up these layers by erasing with a soft edge brush. that way you wont get those obvious clone marks (im terrible at using the clone tool). i would use the area to the top right as the bits to copy from.

Hi Keith, that is a very nice shot of a golden plover, very nice indeed. The background bird is always going to be something that irritates one person and makes the image for the next, so I don't think that it is worth the time and effort of removing it unless you just want the practice. Personally I would find the resulting image too manipulated, so I would keep it as is and try for another. Eric

Keith - it works mighty fine for me as is, though I wish there was a tad more space on the left so's the bird had a bit more 'looking' room.
