We are thinking of getting granddad a digital picture display, the type that have a small framed display that present a slideshow. It seems everybody carries them now but many of the names I have never of in either electronics of photography.
Has anybody a brand(s) they might care to recommend?

High End---check out the ones from Digital Foci ( www.digitalfoci.com). They are coming out with a killer 15" er soon ( reads RAW files too!).

I have a Philips that has been great, I think I've got about 120 images uploaded onto it or it will use an SD card (I think). It has a neat slideshow mode that has different effects around each picture, It's a small one 5X7 I think but it also comes larger iirc.

I haven't done it yet, but my plan is to use my HD TV (one that I will purchase by next Feb.) Then in conjunction with an Apple TV I will be able to upload a folder of images, and use that as a continuous slide show.

If you want a higher end frame, look at http://www.photovu.com for their offerings. They are not cheap by any means, but if you check out the specs (size, resolution, RGB, contrast, etc), I do not think you will find any better. If so, please tell us what you found! These are nothing like the ones you see at Best Buys or Walmart type stores. They also have models that you can manipulate and change photos through the internet and with wireless. So, you can give your Grand-Dad a frame that changes images whenever you want even if you live in another city. They can also be set up to accept RSS feeds from the internet. Ok, or you can just stick in a chip or mini-hard drive and let it go at that!
As a side note to this topic, I have been considering one of the Photovu larger frames for exhibition purposes. I have the $$$ set aside and am ready to do it after watching their website for over a year now. It could be used in art shows, hotel lobbies, stores that sell photography, etc, etc.
One plan that is farther down my list of figuring out is sell or lease the frame to an individual with a contract for a years worth of images. Maybe charge by the number of images being shown at any one time. And those images could change as I shoot new photos. The deal would have to pay for the frame fairly quickly or this would lose money ( and these are very expensive frames). I would enjoy discussing this idea with anyone who is willing to think about it (a new way to sell our photos?). And when it is at home, I might just RSS feed my collection from my website for my own memories!

Sorry I wandered off of David's topic.
