Storm Over the Colorado River
I haven't been out to photograph anything for a couple of months. Sort of a self-imposed sabbatical from photography. I headed out into the storm tonight to check out a spot along the river I pass every day on my way to my evening hike. It wasn't as great as I had hoped but it still felt good to make a new image. Certainly isn't a great photo by any stretch but the conditions were pretty interesting.

I'm not sure why, but this has both a confined and an expansive feel to it. I like the shot, and hereby command you to carry the damn camera with you when you go on your little hikes.

I like the contrast created by the dark incoming storm clouds and those trademark orange/red Moab rocks, and the diagonal line of the FG shoreline. Glad you finally dusted off the old camera and got out for a bit - it's about time!

Angela,

Now I just need to "dust off" the sensor. It's filthy!

I see where Todd is going with his confined/expansive feel, or I think I do :). For me the inclusion of the mud flat in the fg kind of confines the viewer to that spot, but then as you look down the river you get the feeling of expanse!. Glad u got out with the camera, I know the feeling!. Nice image Bret!.

Really like the colors and the low angle. The clouds add some drama as well.

I did the sabbatical thing myself - Nov. to May without a single image. I think it did me good; hard to explain, but I feel like I come out of those periods with greater focus and renewed enthusiasm.

Despite the time off, you didn't get rusty. The comp is top-notch, putting the viewer right there in the scene. And though the river looks calm, the storm clouds suggest otherwise creating a nice tension. Good shooting!
