I'm looking to replace my Sidekick with a full gimbal head and have come accross the following...

Does anybody have any experince of this make and if so what are the conclusions?

All best,

Dave

Or indeed does anybody have any thoughts regarding these cheaper alternatives to the Wimberley?

Hi Dave,

Yes, last weekend I had my 'big rig' mounted up on one of these, they are good, very similar to the v1 Wimberley, I believe, that, unlike the indian copies on Ebay, they have had some re-engineering done to make improvements.....

Obviously not a Wimberley but they are priced well, work as advertised and I will be placing an order soon to replace my 393 head...

The big rig BTW is a 400/2.8 + 2x.

Hi I have one of booth a genuine Mk1 Wimberley and one of the Indian copies the Wimberley is slightly smoother in its movements, but that may be because I haven't used the Indian copy much, the Indian copy came fitted with a copy quick release platform and only cost me £120 delivered to my door much better value and in everyday use almost impossible to tell the difference.

Phil.

hmm... interesting because i'm in the same situation as phil (about to retire the 393) and was wondering what to get. Its so difficult when both products have resounding endorsements from both phils.

Looking at the photos of the eBay ones, and the ones sold by the site linked to, I can't see any differences.

I am another 393 user looking for something better, but less than £200...

Thanks for the feedback guys. Based on the comments from the two Phils I see no reason not to proceed and will be ordering one tonight. The vendor sounds like a genuine guy - he spotted this thread and offered me a pre-prchase field test. I like that kind of service...
I'm off to Mull in a couple of weeks so the head will get a good workout then. If you're interested I'll provide feedback on the field testing?
All best,
Dave
