I felt like trying something different this weekend and took a dip in the Icthen Navigation for Hants and IoW Wildlife Trust. Lots of interesting stuff to see but the highlight for me were the young salmon that were fairly easy to approach due to their territorial nature. First go at photography in a river and I'm quite pleased, C&C welcome.
Canon 5D, f14, 1/60 sec, ISO 400, 50mm macro lens, ikelite housing, Inon Z220 strobes. Cropped to about 70%, processed in RAW shooter and then CS2.

I'm liking this very much
Having the green stuff there adds so much to the whole image IMO.
Nice one

Hi Matt
First attempt the result is that of a seasoned pro - a well composed image and I really like the curve in the young salmon which conveys the feeling of movement as it fights the current!
nice image matt, and a good way around our terrible diving weather this summer - get in a river!!! unfortunately there are no fast rivers on the isle of wight so they are all as muddy as the sea at the moment.
i like the composition, and the flash has been used nice and evenly.
all you need now is to keep at it and get some underwater watervole images.!!

Thanks for all the great comments! I'm dying to get back in a river again soon so we'll see what I come across next!

First attempt

Major.
It's a very nice shot, especially considering how technically difficult it must have been to frame such a small fish in running water

Very well done - the setting and impression of motion are cool
