I got my computer several years ago from a local shop which has gone out of business. Recently I bought an external hard drive to use as a system back up. I tried to get the utility program ntbackup off my Win XP Home Edition disk and got this message -
"Installation package could not be opened. Contact vender to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
The authenticity # for the disk is different from the product ID listed on the Help, About IE page.

Is there an easy way to change the ID number without reloading everything?

I am no expert but I would think there are some other backup programs (probably even free)that are out there and not even use windows. This isn't much help except maybe look for another option.
