Actually it wasn't much of a shower - as is usually the case with these hyped-up meteor showers - but I did manage to catch one shooting star in this frame (little more than a scratch across the frame - I would probably remove it!). It was a pretty good show this morning after the moon went to sleep (I counted probably 35 shooting stars), but about the same as you would find most any clear August night. The peak of the Perseid was yesterday morning, but we had cloudy skies so I put it off until this morning. A little campfire added a touch of glow to the sandstone.

Hi Tim, where was this shot taken? I like what the glow of the campfire did to the surrounding rock walls. And the graphic shape of the star filled sky is a very nice too. Looks like it could get kind of claustrophobic in there.
Here is another version - these were taken at Buzzard Roost - plenty of room down in the caves, although there were a LOT of bats flying through so you had to be careful not to run into them...

OHHH, I like this sideways version. I can almost see the buzzard flying through the scene outlined in your star trail sky. Thanks Tim.

Striking image, Tim. I have seen that formation in either one of your photos or on an AETN show, and thought to myself that it might be a good spot for a night shot. Your photo far exceeds the picture I imagined. I love the contrasting reds and blues.
Hey John, there is a map and directions included in the Arkansas Nature Lover's Guidebook. I've published photos from this area in several of my picture books, but only from above - there are other neat places like this in the Ozarks that I have shot images from below looking up as well - I love this sort of thing. I've heard that Chuck Dovich from AETN seems to be tripping around the state using that guidebook as a roadmap for his TV show so it is possible he did a story here too.

Great night shots, Tim, I like them all but the sideways shot is special! You must have camped there all night!
