Nancy wanted me to post up to inform you all that Rick is in the hospital again with his usual, frustrating and mystifying stomach aliments. He's been there two days now and the Docs still haven't come up with real certain idea of his problem. No idea, no solution. Big bummer.

Anyway, send him your positive thoughts and wishes.

Good Luck, Rick!

Best to you!

Sounds like a co-worker of mine who had a problem with wheat spores. Took forever to diagnose. He kept losing weight, and didn't know why.

Rick hope you get this figured out and on your feet again.

Hey Rick, I hope you get better man. I know we haven't met, but I totally understand how you are probably feeling. I have been having off and on gastrointestinal issues for the past year and so far, no one can tell me what the problem is after all of the testing, pokes, prods, everything. I've missed about two months of work this year because of it. In fact, I am currently sitting at home rather than at work because I have been sick again the past week with an ER trip to boot.

It really sucks man, and I hope for both of our sakes that we can find the answers to what the problem truly is. I think the biggest problem that I have is Kaiser Permanente. :argue:

Sorry to hear this. Hope all goes well and a resolution if finally found..

Rick, without a doubt our hope is that the source of all this can finally be found, for you and the others on this thread who have similar issues. I'm starting to realize how many people suffer with this. We all wish you a fast recovery!

Best wishes Rick. Hoping you kick that problem fast

Hi friends,
First, many thanks to Mark whom I haven't spoken to in a very long time! I called him while driving to the hospital, not knowing anything, but knowing Rick would want you to know both as a friend and as a missing in action member and moderator.

What can I say? He's still alive. He's feeling much better. He's still in the hospital and I'm packing up clothes in case they let him escape tomorrow. Its' our guess that we shoudl be prepared. We don't have anything definitive but they have some new ideas to explore...

We are so grateful to all of you and your warm thoughts. Many thanks. Nancy

I had problems with my stomach for years. After years of negative tests, my doctors implied that my issues were "in my head". In frustration, I finally began an exclusion diet and discovered that I had Celiac Disease - an autoimmune disorder where the patient is very sensitive to gluten, the protein found in wheat and other cereal grains.

I wonder if Rick's doctors have overlooked the simple blood test for Celiac Disease like my doctors did.

Hey guys, Thanks for all the wonderful kind words!! It's been a hell of a ride lately that's for sure! I'm up and around in the hospital and found this public computer so I dropped by the forum to see what everyone has been posting. Nancy told me I needed to check yall out so thanks for the wonderful support!!!!

The doctors really don't seem to really "know" what ails me these past 6 years. Damn annoying. We're gonna press them to look into celiac though. It seems to fit but I'll freely admit I LOVE GREAT bread!!! grrrrrrr

Anyhoo before I get all woobly and can't walk back to my room yall take care and again thanks for the support!!!

Get well soon! I think i have the same thing with the wheat, like you said though, its hard to stay away from it. Cliff

Rick:

If it is indeed Celiac, just slurping some suds will do it you: barley contains gluten. And of course, processed foods are full of wheat by-products. That little molecule really gets around.

The best of luck to you!! :wavey:

I have a question for you about your comment: "I wonder if Rick's doctors have overlooked the simple blood test for Celiac Disease like my doctors did."
Rick's surgeon made it sound like this was a very complicated thing to diagnose. A "simple" blood test? How simple?
Please contact me. Nancy

I just got back in town after five days out in central Oregon away from all forms of communication. Sorry to hear your still having troubles Rick. I've done so much research on "digestive ailment's". Bottom line it could be anything including food allergies. IBS is also hard to diagnose and is frequently overlooked. Soon they wil get to the bottom of it and you'll be back to normal.
Posted by Guy Tal on August 19, 2008 at 4:47 PM
Having had my own bouts of mysterious stomach ailments, I can certainly sympathize. Celiac is actually not trivial to diagnose but the external signs are obvious since the disease will prevent the body from absorbing nutrients (in other words you will look starved if you had it).
If it's that hard to diagnose, my main suspicion would be a food allergy. It can be pretty much anything, unfortunately. You may want to try some dietary changes (vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic etc.) to see if there's noticeable improvement.
Whatever it is, I hope you're back out there soon!

Guy
